Ad fontes: Borys Jakubs’kyj’s Nauka virshuvannia and Formation of the Ukrainian Science of Verse

The essay describes an arduous process of formation verse studies in Ukraine the early 1920s. Borys Jakubs’kyj’s book Nauka virshuvannia [The Science Versification] published Kyiv 1922 served as first harbinger a new Ukrainian theory verse. In developing his science versification Jakubs’kyj relied on instrumentarium proponents Formalist method literary who belonged to Petrograd Society for Study Poetic Language, known OPOJAZ, and primarily concepts developed by Boris Tomashevskij pretty much singlehandedly established OPOJAZ approach theory. After publication also wrote succinct review which he expressed wish see it translated into Russian (which never happened).
